Living as If It Is Already Done: Faith, History, and Science

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today, we reflect on the powerful statement, “We must dwell in the consciousness that we have already become what we desire to be and already possess what we wish to have.” This message underscores the importance of faith and how it aligns with the truths revealed through the lives of biblical figures, historical figures, and even modern scientific theories.

Let us first consider Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This verse teaches us that faith enables us to perceive God’s promises as already fulfilled, even if we cannot see them yet.

1. Abraham’s Faith

Abraham is known as the father of faith. He believed and obeyed God’s promises. When God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky, he was old and childless. Yet, Abraham believed. Romans 4:18-21 describes his faith: “Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’… being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

2. Joseph’s Dreams

Joseph received dreams from God in his youth that he would rise to a position of great authority. His life, however, was full of hardships—being sold into slavery and unjustly imprisoned. Yet, he held on to God’s promise. The story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50 shows how his faith and perseverance eventually led him to become the Prime Minister of Egypt, fulfilling the dreams God had given him.

3. David’s Anointing

David was anointed to be king while he was still a shepherd boy. His path to the throne was fraught with challenges, including being pursued by King Saul. Despite the hardships, David trusted in God’s promise. Eventually, David did become the great king of Israel, as described in the books of Samuel.

4. Faith in Historical Figures

History also provides us with examples of individuals who lived by the principle that they had already become what they desired to be. Martin Luther King Jr., in his “I Have a Dream” speech, envisioned a world free of racial discrimination and acted as though this vision was already a reality. His faith and vision were instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement, bringing significant change.
Thomas Edison, who failed thousands of times before inventing the practical light bulb, believed in his vision and persisted as if success was assured. His determination and belief eventually led to one of the most significant inventions in history.

5. Modern Science and Faith

Modern science also sheds light on how our beliefs shape our reality. Quantum physics, for instance, suggests that the observer can influence the state of what is being observed. This idea resonates with the biblical principle in Mark 11:24: “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Our faith can indeed affect our reality.

Conclusion

The lives of Abraham, Joseph, and David demonstrate how God’s promises come to fruition through unwavering faith. Historical figures and modern science further illustrate that living as though we have already received what we desire brings about real change.
Dear friends, let us live with the consciousness that we have already become what we desire and already possess what we wish for. This faith will bring transformative power into our lives. When we believe in God’s promises and live with gratitude, God is pleased and responds to our faith.
Let us hold on to God’s promises, live as though our blessings are already fulfilled, and move forward with praise and thanksgiving. To God be all the glory, and may we all live victorious lives of faith. Amen.
